Help Wanted: A President Who Leads

All across America, in every state and every city
the signs of our times make it clear how weak our
economy is.
Signs brighter and more obvious than the neon of Las
Vegas or Times Square are popping up and remaining
up on Main Street and every street in America —
signs like these: unemployment signs, high gas
signs, debt signs, bankruptcy signs, going out of
business signs, for rent signs, foreclosure signs,
short sale signs, will work for food signs and the
list goes on and on.
The problem that has caused these ominous signs
rests not with our people; it lies with an
administration, a federal bureaucracy and a Congress
that fails to lead and governs out of hyper partisan
political ideology instead of patriotism, common
sense and reality.
What are the causes of the signs we are seeing?
- A government that spends more than it takes in creates debt.
- A government that over regulates makes it difficult if not impossible to start up a business or remain in business.
- A government that over taxes, loses its base to other places that create opportunity.
- A government that gives or guarantees loans to those who are not credit worthy creates defaults.
- A government who would rather import oil than exploit its own resources creates dependency and becomes a hostage to hostile foreign nations.
- A government that favors one business over another stifles competition.
- A government that refuses to deal with unsustainable entitlements like Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security risks the future of generations of Americans and the very survival of a nation.
- A government that pits its people against each other weakens the moral, ethical, and patriotic fabric of society.
We are not the French. We do not expect government to provide for our every need or want. Government should only do for the people what the people cannot do for themselves.
The government needs to get lean and the American people need to get mean. We can solve any problem and overcome any burden if we work together.
If we are to better our financial condition then we need to have shared sacrifice. We must dramatically cut government spending; reduce taxes across the board — from income taxes, to capitol gains, to the death tax.
We must also close loopholes and scrap a tax code that no one can make heads or tails of.
Regardless of what the Supreme Court rules on healthcare, we must overturn Obamacare and offer generational changes to healthcare legacy costs. We must allow healthcare insurance to be sold across state lines to create more competition and implement savings accounts and cooperatives to help reduce costs and increase coverage.
Our government must deal with the unsustainability of entitlements like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. We must demand that services provided by the government are sustainable in our time and for all time at a cost that is sustainable by the revenue of the tax base.
If we unleash the creativity, ingenuity and optimism of the American people and get the government out of the way, there is no telling how fast we can get back on the road to a full and complete economic recovery.
America also must institute an energy policy that first and foremost centers around exploiting our own resources and reducing the dependency on foreign sources of energy. We must also encourage education, invention and development in “next generation” energy sources. An energy “big think” as bold and exciting as the Kennedy moon shot challenge is needed.
Obama has it wrong when he said the following in November of 2011 with regard to Americans:
"But we’ve been a little bit lazy, I think, over the last couple of decades," he said at CEO summit at the APEC meeting in Hawaii. "We’ve kind of taken for granted — well, people will want to come here and we aren’t out there hungry, selling America and trying to attract new business into America."
The problem rests not with our people Mr. President. It rests in an administration that believes that government is superior to the people it was created to serve.
The president’s philosophy, politics, and policies created the signs of our times and the signs of our times make it clear that he has neither earned nor deserves a second term.
