Forked Tongue

My Native American ancestors used to say, “White man speak with forked tongue.” Were they alive today to hear Mr. Obama indiscriminately sprinkle promises throughout his eloquent verbal performances and then do the opposite of what he has promised, my ancestors would probably nod knowingly and say, “Yes, President Obama, too, speak with forked tongue.” My African American ancestors, not unlike their distant relatives of today, would probably still be under the spell of Obama’s charm.

During his visit to Turkey, Obama said, “We do not consider ourselves a Christian nation or a Jewish nation or a Muslim nation. We consider ourselves a nation of citizens who are bound by ideals and a set of values.” The operative words are ideals and values. What and whose ideals and values is he referencing?” The answer is easy to find because our Founders left a clear and precise road map to aid us should we ever need to engage in a search for America’s true and historically accurate ideals and values.

One of our Founders, Thomas Jefferson said, “I have sworn upon the altar of God, eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man.” At another time he stated, “The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time.” Lest we forget, these very words are chiseled into the stone of the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, DC, our nation’s capital.

For those who seek clarity as to what our nation’s ideals and values were and still are, the words of Jefferson could not be clearer. Read for yourself the preamble to any of the fifty state constitutions and you will find America’s Founders’ ideals and values clearly enunciated.

The preamble to the constitution of President Abraham Lincoln’s home state of Illinois could not be more specific: “We, the people of the State of Illinois, grateful to Almighty God for the civil, political and religious liberty which He hath so long permitted us to enjoy and looking to Him for a blessing on our endeavors...” Knowing and accurately voicing America’s historical ideals and values can only be difficult for those who are not honestly seeking them.

Our Founders were firm in declaring that America’s ideals and values grew out of unalienable rights given us by our creator -- the God of Abraham -- and they clearly enunciated them in the Declaration of Independence: “When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth the separate and equal station to which the laws of nature and of nature’s God entitle them…We hold these truths to be self-evident;  that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” For the most part our Founders were Bible Believing Christians who, were they living today, would express shock that an American President would suggest otherwise.

During last year’s presidential election campaign, Mr. Obama insinuated to the voters that the ideals and values of our Founders were desperately in need of change -- change that Obama would define for them after he won the election. More than half of America’s voters took him at his word. Unfortunately, too few asked the question, “Change from what to what?” So now we have a president who has no leadership experience, who has not led so much as a Boy Scout Troop. Ah, but he promises money to the money-less, jobs to the job-less and medical care to all, especially illegal aliens. Is this the change the majority of Americans voted for and expected to see? Not hardly.

Since the election, the most critical problem the American people and the Obama Administration have faced has been getting the nation’s economy back on track and creating jobs. So why, for months, has Obama focused the attention of the Congress and the entire nation on health care? How many jobs have or will the health care debate create? None!

Until there is a job for every man and woman who wants to work the President and the Congress should possess one single and determined objective: stimulation of the economy with an attendant creation of jobs. And there is a huge difference between stimulating the economy and a political power grab -- the amassing of all authority and decision making in the White House under Obama’s czars.

When people don’t have enough money to buy food for their families or to make their car and mortgage payments and their attention is being diverted by politically manufactured crises, they will not notice that Obama’s change mantra is resulting in the Federal Government’s take over of the nation’s businesses, industries, and families – as happened in the Soviet Union and Red China.

Obama speaks eloquently and pervasively of America’s ideals and values, but his actions are far removed from those of our Founders. My Native American ancestors were quick to recognize an imposter when they heard one. Today would they conclude that, “President Obama speaks with forked tongue?” I strongly suggest that they would. As for the rest of us, what conclusions have we drawn?
